Dinner and Desserts

Even Faylana could tell the dress she had been given was revealing. But the Baron had sent it to her by way of a gloomy servant. He’d had it delivered to her in the baroness’s room, and Faylana noticed that except when they’d first arrived, the Baron hadn’t entered the sick room since. He’d sent servants to fetch her, but she’d sent them all away, begging his indulgence. She was close to something. She could feel it. The baroness’s breathing had grown easier as she worked, though the fever still engulfed her.

It was in such high spirits that Faylana realized the hour and recalled her promise to the Baron. She could surely take a break now, and it would be a fine opportunity to give the man an update on his wife’s condition. Poor soul must have been simply distraught!

As she opened the doors to the dining room the baron rose from the head of the long table, his eyes devouring her curves. The gown she wore was almost as diaphanous as the starlit sky, further emphasized by the glitter of jewels inlaid in the cloth. A thin strip of cloth wrapped around her breasts beneath the fabric, barely enough to cover her nipples, and another rode her hips to mask her quim.

“My dear, you look ravishing,” the Baron crooned.

Faylana giggled. “Thank you!”

He gestured to a seat beside him, and Faylana noticed that, despite the fact that the table was almost as long as the room, the only other place set was the one directly beside him. Of course, if he wanted to talk to her, it would have to be. Smiling contentedly, Faylana took a seat, a servant pushing the chair in behind her moments before food was laid and wine poured into a tall, fluted glass.

“Filleted masion fish, all the way from the sea,” the Baron said, swirling his drink grandly.

“Looks yummy!” Faylana chirped.

“That it does,” the Baron said, his eyes lingering on the way Faylana’s full breasts rose and fell against her gown.

Faylana nodded and started to dig in. “Mmm!” she moaned as the sweet meat hit her tongue, lemon juice accenting the natural flavour of the fish. “This is good!”

“So glad you think so,” the Baron said. “As Baron, I have great freedom to bring only the finest food to my home. And the baroness, of course, enjoyed such delicacies as well.”

“Mm! About that,” Faylana said brightly. “I think I may have figured it out!”

The Baron paused in cutting up his fish. “Figured what out?”

“What your wife was sick from,” she said brightly. “It’s not a disease at all. It’s a toxin.”

“A… toxin?”

“Oh yes!” Faylana said. “The poor thing must have eaten the petals of a Shade flower. Nasty things. In small doses, it’s undetectable. But while I was in the garden, I noticed the roots where some used to grow! She must have accidentally eaten that.”

The Baron stared at her in silence. Then, he smiled. “Yes,” he said. “Of course. What an… unfortunate coincidence.
